Bundled vs per-minute: the break-even math

Common destinations like UK, Germany and France land around $0.04 per minute. Rare destinations like Argentina or Indonesia land closer to $0.30.

The break-even calculation versus 8x8 X2's $24 base (assume $20 base for a domestic-only competitor): pay $4 per user extra for the unlimited bundle. Break-even at $0.04 per minute UK is 100 minutes per month. Break-even at $0.30 per minute Argentina is 13 minutes per month. If it includes Africa, the Middle East, China or India, neither bundle covers fully and per-minute pricing applies.

Map your actual call destinations from the last 3 to 6 months of phone records (your current vendor's call detail records have this) before choosing. The bundle-vs-per-minute decision needs real data, not assumptions.

8x8 has the broadest international DID coverage (most countries available). RingCentral and Vonage cover the major markets but with thinner coverage in Latin America and Asia. Zoom Phone, Dialpad and Nextiva have narrower selections.

For ecommerce brands shipping internationally, having a local UK or German DID can dramatically lift inbound support calls. The marginal cost is small ($60 to $360 per year per number) and the answer-rate lift is real. For services-led international businesses (consulting, agencies), local DIDs in target markets are part of professional positioning.

Microsoft Teams Phone international: a separate consideration

If you are on Microsoft Teams Phone the international calling options work differently. The Domestic + International Calling Plan at $24 per user per month includes 600 international minutes per user pooled at the tenant level. The country coverage is broad but the per-user minute cap can be tight for international-heavy users.
